News - Women's Perspective

The family of Senator Buruji Kashamu has spoken up regarding the alleged involvement of their son in the death of Sylvester Oromoni Junior, the murdered 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos.

The family denied the involvement of their son, Michael Adewale Kashamu in the unfortunate torture and death of the junior student.

Sylvester died from internal injuries he sustained from the beating by a group of 6 senior boys who are said to belong to the school’s cult gang.

He passed away a few days to his 12th birthday after mentioning the names of the alleged cult members, one of whom is Adewale Michael Kashamu.

According to Daily Post, Mutairu Kashamu, a member of the alleged bully’s family issued a statement on their behalf confirming that Michael Adewale Kashamu is indeed one of their sons.

He said however, that even if Michael was mentioned as one of the suspected bullies of the deceased, he had no hand in Sylvester’s death.

Excerpts of the statement:

Most commentators have rushed to conclusions based on assumptions and false information, including the allegation that our son Adewale Michael Kashamu was involved in the bullying or beating Sylvester Oromoni.

“We as a family have made our private enquiries and carefully questioned our son about his involvement. This is why we didn’t rush out to respond to the cyber-stalking, name-calling, and negative commentaries that have taken over social media about our son’s alleged involvement in this sad incident.

“Some of the true facts now slowly emerging from under the mass of lies are that: Our son, Adewale Michael Kashamu had acted as a school father for the late Sylvester in his first session in the school at the request of Sylvester’s sister who is also a student of the school.

“However, in the 2021 session which began in September 2021, Adewale Michael Kashamu was moved to a different floor in the boarding house and engrossed in his own studies and school activities, our son was no longer as close to Sylvester as in the previous session.

The Kashamu family, according Daily Post, sympathised with the Oromoni family and appealed to the public to allow the police and the Lagos State government conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Dowen College was sealed off over the weekend following the incident while the family of the deceased vowed not to bury their son until justice is served.
