Breaking News !

Lawmakers in House of Representatives have suspended its plenary session due to the industrial strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress on Tuesday.

The break aims to provide the leadership of the federal legislature with the opportunity to take prompt actions in resolving the ongoing issues between organized labor and the government led by President Bola Tinubu.

The adjournment followed the consideration and adoption of a motion of “Matters of urgent public importance,” brought to the floor of the House by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, on Wednesday.

Kalu who represents Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, while leading the debate, called on the leadership of the bicameral legislature to engage organised labour to reach common ground in the interest of the nation.

Lawmakers who made it to the plenary lamented the hardship Nigerians nationwide have been subjected to since the commencement of the industrial action, stressing that every step must be taken to resolve the dispute once and for all.

In his ruling before the adjournment, Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, said the leadership of the House would immediately meet with its counterpart, assuring Nigerians that the issue would be addressed and treated in a manner of urgency.

Consequently, all items listed on the Order Paper including consideration of bills and motions were suspended while the House adjourned till Thursday.
