The recently elected Prime Minister of the UK, Liz Truss has resigned. She tendered her resignation today, Thursday, October 20, 2022.
She stated however, that she will continue to act as Prime Minister until a new Prime minister emerges.
She becomes the shortest-serving PM in British history.
Liz who succeeded Boris Johnson was however, able to see the Queen of England before the monarch’s death.
She stated she has informed the new King of England, King Charles.
Her brief speech:
Liz Truss said in her resignation speech: We delivered on energy bills and on cutting national insurance. We have continued to stand with Ukraine and to protect our own security. And we set out a vision for a low tax, high growth economy – that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.
“I recognise however that, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty The King to notify him that I am resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party.
“There will be a leadership election to be completed in the next week. This will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security. I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen.”
