Breaking news just reaching us say Nigeria’s Treasury House, which is also the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in Abuja is on fire right now.
A resident of one of the estates in the neighbourhood said the fire broke out a few minutes ago.
Another report says the fire started from the third floor of the building and is raging upwards.
The fire is assessed to have consumed the Accountant General’s Office and most f the adjoining offices.
Fire-fighters complain that they are completely helpless as they do not have the equipment to reach that floor level.
Eyewitnesses worry that vital records of Nigeria’s financial status are consumed by the raging inferno.
One civil servant worries that his outstanding salaries may be affected. This is worsened by the fact that he is barely able to feed his family from the little he has.
Another eyewitness is hopeful that records of all the donations towards fighting the coronavirus disease are stored elsewhere as indigent Nigerians may be the hardest hit.
