A tanker fully loaded with petrol (premium motor spirit) has exploded at Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The incident occurred at about 1:00am Saturday morning and could not be salvaged as there were no firefighters or first responders within sight.

The explosion caused heavy traffic for commuters travelling out of Lagos.

It is also reported that a number of vehicles were caught up in the uncontrolled inferno especially due to the traffic gridlock.

Number of human casualties have not been reported neither are number of vehicles involved.

Reports say that heavy traffic has also built up on the other side of the road as some motorists resorted to driving against traffic as a result of the blocked outbound lanes.
