British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has imposed a fresh total lockdown on the country as new cases of covid19 soar.
Bloomberg reports on Saturday that it is his desperate move to to stop the spread of a new strain of the virus that is currently spreading rapidly.
Johnson had planned to ease restrictions for at least 5 days, but that has been put aside.
Household meetings and reunions have been banned in London and south east England but socialising will be allowed only on Christmas Day for other parts of the country.
The most troubled areas have been put on Tier 4 alert. The sam measure will apply in the hot-spot areas around London with effect from Sunday.
As a result, all non-essential shops will close down, millions of people will be forced to remain indoors and all foreign trips banned.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised to review the rules by the 30th of December.
He told a news conference that “When the virus changes its mode of attack, we must change our mode of defence.”
Johnson added that “Without action, the evidence suggests infections would soar, hospitals would become overwhelmed and many thousands more would lose their lives.”
The strain of #COVID19 appears unique to the UK according to emerging scientific evidence.
There are indications that this strain is capable of spreading much faster than the regular ones resulting in an alarming increase in new infections
