President Muhammadu Buhari is set to confer the honour of “Distinguished Award in Infrastructure Delivery” on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
The award comes regardless of the raging crisis within the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in which Wike is a key actor.
The award is scheduled for the forthcoming Nigeria Excellence in Public Service Award put together by the Federal Government.
The information is contained in a letter by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha which was signed by the Permanent Secretary (General Services) in the SGF’s Office, Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri.
The award ceremony will take place on the 21st of October at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
Some of the infrastructural achievements that have earned Governor Wike the recognition for such an award include investments by his administration in projects in the healthcare, education, health, sports, and agriculture as well as the construction of twelve flyovers in the state.
The commitment has earned him the nickname Mr. Project with Wike vowing to continue until his last day in office.
He said: “The only way we can show gratitude to the people for the confidence they reposed in us is to continue to serve them with all our heart and might.”
“I will continue to commission projects until the last day. We can’t stop. We were elected to serve the people. We will continue to offer quality services to our people.
“Even our worst critics will agree that we have delivered excellently on our campaign promises. By God’s grace we will finish strong and our incoming governor, Siminalayi Fubara will continue in our legacy of quality service to our people.”
Governor Nyesom Wike has been at loggerheads with Atiku Abubakar and the PDP National Chairman, Iyorcha Ayu since Atiku won the presidential ticket of the party ahead of the 2023 election.
