Businessman, Police Officer Killed as Rival Gangs Clash in Minna

A businessman and a police officer have allegedly been killed when rival gangs clashed in Minna, the Niger State Capital on Friday.

The fight is said to have started on Thursday, January 20 resulting in reprisal attacks) which led to the death of the businessman identified as Ifeanyi Ozoka.

The Punch reports that the clash happened between the youth of Limawa and Ogbomosho areas of Minna.

Security operatives drafted to the area are alleged to have been unable to contain the mayhem.

According to reports, by Friday morning, the gangs regrouped and descended on the Minna central area, disrupting activities as shop owners locked up and scampered to safety.

Ozoka who owned a shop along Ogbomosho road is said to have been stabbed during the clash and later died while receiving treatment in the hospital.

Details about what led to the death of the police officer are still unknown as at the time of filing this report.

Gang fights have become a recurring event in Minna leaving residents fleeing their homes for safety. The hoodlums cash in on the confusion to steal from homes, shops and commit all kinds of atrocities.

The development has also left commuters in fear as the fights usually occur on major roads with the hoodlums freely wielding dangerous weapons.

Car windscreens get shattered by the rampaging thugs while members of the public are attacked and injured.
