Butt Lifts, butt implant or augmentation with fat grafting aims to surgically increase the volume of the buttocks.
The cosmetic surgery began in year 2000 and patronage has sharply grown. It is typically patronised by female celebrities especially those in the entertainment industry.
Transgenders also undergo the surgery to increase their femininity.
Healthline highlights 4 possible types of butt lift procedures:
- Fat transfer also known as Brazilian butt lift involves the suction of fat from another part of the body, possibly the stomach or thigh. The fat is then transferred to the buttocks where additional collagen is formed to further increase the volume.
- Hydrogel and silicon buttock injections are the cheaper means of augmenting the buttocks. It does not require the traditional surgery and is very often dangerous. It comes with injecting hydrogel or silicon into the desired area. The procedure only gives temporary results and discouraged by surgeons.
- Silicon implants involves implanting solid silicon inside the buttocks muscles. Skin grafting is added for increased volume. It is the procedure recommended by cosmetic surgeons. They say it is safe and effective. The patient recovers within 4 weeks.
- Liposuction involves removing excess fat from certain areas of the body and adding to the desired buttock area.
Despite all the frequently patronised procedures, the American FDA has not approved any form of buttock lifting procedure. This is because of the many risks that come with it.
Healthline specifically states that:
“The agency notes that injections attempted for these types of procedures can lead to serious complications, including infection, scarring, and disfigurement, stroke, and death.
Any injections to the buttocks, including Sculptra, are considered off-label by the FDA.”
