There is calamity in a private school in Lagos, Nigeria as 181 students and staff have been confirmed to have contracted covid19 few days after resumption.

The State Minister of Health, Prof Akin Abayomi said the cases were reported in a boarding school located at the high brow Lekki Area of Lagos.

He added that the positive cases were detected during a surveillance and case investigation in the school as well as other boarding schools within the Lekki axis.

The statement is titled: “Lagos State confirms #COVID19 infection in a private school” and signed by the Health Ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo.

He quoted the Commissioner as saying that “181 students and staff members of a private school located in a surbub of Lekki tested positive to #COVID19 during surveillance and case investigation in the school.

“There are 441 students and staff in the school.”

The school’s index case according to the Health Ministry, is traced to “a 14-year-old SS1 female student fell ill on the 3rd of October and was sent home after receiving first aid at the school.”

The Health Commissioner himself had contracted covid19 earlier in the year.
