The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reacted to news of Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho mocking Pastor Enoch Adeboye over son, Dare’s death.
Igboho said last week that he would not offer his condolences to Pastor Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
According to him, the respected cleric has refused to support agitations for the Yoruba nation. For that reason, he would not sympathise with him or anyone not interested in the agitations.
Igboho made his views known in a live Facebook broadcast with his media aide, Olayomi Koiki on Saturday.
When Koiki asked Igboho to sympathise with Pastor Adeboye over the death of his son, an infuriated Igboho asked, “Has Baba supported Yoruba nation that we will now be greeting him ? We don’t need to greet Adeboye. What is my own with that ? We are not doing Church here. This is not religion.
“Pastor Adeboye didn’t speak about Yoruba nation. Look at millions of members that follow him. Is he not supposed to tell all of them to join Yoruba nation ? We don’t need to greet him.”
In an interview with SaharaReporters on Sunday, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, the Special Adviser to the CAN President, Rev Supo Ayokunle stressed that no Nigerian Christian leader has been silent over the situation in Nigeria.
When asked about Igboho’s comment regarding the death of Pastor Dare Adeboye, Pastor Oladeji responded that, “I am sorry. No comment. If that is how you all see ie, let it be. If CAN has been keeping quiet over the happenings in the country, if that is how you see it, too bad. We are not ready to reply Sunday Igboho.”
