A Canadian lawmaker, William Amos was caught stark naked during a zoom meeting of the Canadian House of Commons.
In what many view as the world’s struggles to adapt to the new normal and new ways of doing business because of the pandemic, the parliamentarian appeared to be unaware that he was being viewed naked by his colleagues.
Reports say that Amos was seen completely naked on the screens of his colleagues on Wednesday.
However, because he was not speaking at that moment, he was only visible to parliamentarians and staff of the House during the virtual meeting.
Someone later posted a screenshot of William Amos standing behind a desk between the Quebec and Canadian flags. The only thing that shielded a view of his private part was what looked like a mobile phone.
Another legislator announced her disapproval of the situation prompting Amos to describe it as an “unfortunate error.”
A legislator for the opposition, Bloc Quebecois party, Claude DeBellefeuille raised the objection in a point of order after a question period. She reminded members that parliamentary decorum requires male parliament members to wear a jacket, shirt and tie, underwear and trousers.
He added that “My video was accidentally turned on as I was changing into my work clothes after going for a jog.
“I sincerely apologise to my colleagues in the House of Commons for this unintentional distraction. Obviously, it was an honest mistake and it won’t happen again.”
On her part, Speaker Anthony Rota thanked DeBellefeuille for her observations saying she had not seen anything. However, on checking with the technicians, they confirmed they saw something.
Rita reminded the lawmakers to always be vigilant when they are near the microphone of camera.
