Carveton Helicopters has been sent packing from Rivers State by the State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
This follows what the governor terms unsafe practices in the face of the ravaging coronavirus. The company’s helicopters landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport earlier in the week. Its 2 pilots and 10 passengers were immediately arrested for contravening the lockdown order issued by the governor.
All 12 travellers were arraigned before a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court. The court instructed they they all be remanded and adjourned their case to the 19th of May. In also ordered that a covid-19 test be carried out on them.
In a statement yesterday, Wike said that “We appreciate the need to protect business interests and operations in the state.
“We will do whatever is required to ensure no business is unduly affected by measures we have taken to combat the coronavirus.
“However, we shall not welcome business or companies that value their activities or profit more than or in clear disregard of lives and health of our people.
“Carveton Helicopters have clearly shown that Rivers lives do not matter to it. It is an enemy of Rivers people and is hereby declared persona non-grata.
