Catholic Priest Dies after Spending Night with Girlfriend in a Hotel

A Catholic priest, who served as a parish priest St. Peter’s Church in Ruai has been reported dead after being unconscious in a hotel in Murang’a County.

According to a police report, Fr. Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, 43, checked into Monalisa Hotel Delview in Gatanga on Friday night accompanied by a 32-year-old female.

One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku a k/m/a aged 43yrs old, a Catholic priest at Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer at Mangu area checked in at the said hotel together with his girlfriend who also happens to be his colleague at the workplace in Ruai,” it read in part.

Around 8:00am on Saturday, the lady is said to have notified the hotel’s management that Kariuki was getting dizzy and unconscious. He was immediately rushed a nearby hospital.

They then rushed him to Kenol hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival while still aboard his motor vehicle Toyota Harrier black in colour,” the report further read.

Police say that Fr. Karuki’s body was found half-covered with a hotel bed sheet and white foam oozed from the mouth and nose.

The body has been moved to Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi pending autopsy and further police action.

He was a 43y ears old, a Catholic priest at Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer at Mangu area.

The foods and drinks that the lovers took on their fun night have been taken for further analysis as investigations continue.
