Catholic Priest Dies of Covid19 in Enugu

A Catholic Priest attached to the Catholic Diocese of Enugu Rev Fr Joachim Cabanyes has died of complications triggered by covid19.

The Dioceses said that the priest died at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Isolation Centre.

Speaking to newsmen Saturday, 18th July, Rev Fr Nkemjika Igweshi, Secretary to Most Rev Callistus Onaga, Bishop of Enugu Diocese said that Rev Cabanyes was a Spanish priest of the Opus Dei Prelature.

Catholic Priest Igweshi is also the Chaplin of St Lucy Catholic Chaplaincy, Emene, near Enugu.

He added that the deceased had worked in the diocese in addition to servicing the Church for 28 years. According to Igweshi, He hailed from Spain but loved our people so much and always attended our diocesan functions.

“His body has just been laid to rest following the NDDC guidelines 

Rev Igweshi prayed for the repose of the soul of Rev Fr Cabanyes and cautioned those still in doubt about the reality of #COVID19.   Igweshi admonished everyone to observe health safety guidelines.

In his words: “please let us know that covid19 is real and we will do well to observe all necessary health precautions and safety measures.”
