CBN Governor Joins 2023 Presidential Race

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is reported to have picked up the 2023 presidential nomination and expression of interest form of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Emefiele picked the N100 million forms on Friday from the party’s organising secretary at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.

According to Peoples Gazette, the spokesperson for Godwin Emefiele declined comments. The CBN governor himself also declined comments.

The purchase of the APC presidential form by Emefiele puts to rest speculations that he is plotting to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Emefiele becomes the first central bank governor to seek an elective position while in office.

He joins a long list of APC members ready to battle it out for the ruling party’s presidential ticket.

With the purchase of the APC presidential form, Emefiele joins Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Jigawa Governor Abubakar Badaru, Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Ebonyi Governor David Umahi and Senator Ken Nnamani in getting the form ahead of the ruling party’s primaries.

A female presidential aspirant, Uju Kennedy has also picked her forms after paying the sum of N30m as directed by the party, among others.

Aspirants that have indicated interest but are yet to pick their forms are, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, a former House of Representatives Speaker, Dimeji Bankole.
