He was also seen being restrained by unformed police officers after which his vehicle was locked inside the plaza with himself and other occupants inside.
Yesterday, Head of Press and Public Relations of CCT, Ibraheem Al-Hassan denied the altercation.
In his version of the incident, Al-Hassan said that Danladi Umar has been a regular visitor to the plaza for over 18 years for shopping and repairs of his phones.
He added that he never had any dispute with anyone in the entire period of such visits.
In his words, “Unfortunately, yesterday’s altercations started over a parking lot which the Chairman met vacant and it was directly opposite the shop where he wanted to make a purchase and to fix his phone when the young security guard sighted him and ordered that the chairman should not park his car in that particular empty space.
Al-Hassan added that the guard was rude and issued threats to the CCT Chairman during the altercation that ensued.
Speaking further, the spokesman said that the Umar did not go to Banex Plaza to cause trouble but he was assaulted by some miscreants who he said locked the gate “before the arrival of police team from Maitama Police Station.”
According to him, “Though the Chairman didn’t identify himself, because to him, it was needless, and it was a place he visited often, the boy was rude in his approach and threatened to deal with the Chairman if he refused to leave the scene.
“Again, if the Chairman had gone there to cause trouble or to intimidate someone, as suggested in the report, he would have gone there in his full official pharaphernalia but he went there alone with his younger brother.”
