The judge presiding over the sitting for the detained leader of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has ordered the DSS to ensure he has a change of clothes.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, gave the semblance of empathy for the embattled separatist leader during the sitting today, Tuesday, January 18.
During the court hearing, the new lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), complained that the Department of State Services (DSS) is still treating his client with disdain in its custody.
He added that Kanu is still being poorly treated by the security operatives and being kept in solitary confinement in the custody of the secret police.
In her reaction, Justice Nyako ordered the DSS to allow Kanu to change the clothes which he wore during his first arraignment in June 2021.
She added that the IPOB leader should not appear in the same Fendi outfit during his next appearance tomorrow, Wednesday, reiterating her previous order that Kanu be allowed the maximum comfort possible.
Justice Nyako directed the DSS to allow him have a bath whenever he wants, change his clothes, eat properly and practice his faith.
The judge also reminded the IPOB leader that he cannot have a luxury of a 5-star hotel in DSS detention, regardless.
In her words, “I don’t want to see him in these clothes again. This one is almost off-white. Also, make sure that you allow him to exercise.”
