Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS), on Thursday, grilled two journalists of Channels Television over an interview they hosted behalf of the TV station.
Reports say that Chamberlain Usoh and Kayode Okikiolu were grilled for hours but later released around 7:00pm.
Daily Trusts reports that the presenters were invited but not arrested as reported by some social media platforms.
Their invitation followed a petition by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over an interview granted by the former Navy Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
Chamberlain and Kayode were allegedly queried for not cautioning Governor Ortom for “making incisive and divisive statements.”
They are also asked to make a commitment that such a scenario will not repeat itself.
However, they both refused to make any commitment arguing that they were merely employees of Channels TV and are not in a position to make any commitment on behalf of their employer.
The DSS, in a statement on Thursday, through its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, denied arresting the journalists.
During a television interview, Ortom labelled Buhari as the worst President to ever rule Nigeria, adding that the President is grossly incapable of managing the affairs of the country.
He added that Buhari is trying to implement a secret Fulani agenda in Nigeria and cares more about cows than the people he is expected to lead.
Olawunmi, on his part revealed that the Buhari-led government was shielding sponsors of Boko Haram.
He added that the terrorists mentioned names of current governors, senators and Aso Rock officials as sponsors during interrogation by the military authorities.
According to him, the DSS has enormous information on the terrorists but can not do anything because the body language of the President does not permit them to.
