There was chaos in ECWA church, Kabba, Kogi State yesterday, Sunday, 19th September when gunmen invadedand disrupted the day’s service
Six invaders arrived heavily armed at about 10:15am, killed 1 person, injured some others and kidnapped 2 of the worshippers.
They came with cutlasses and guns shooting sporadically into the air and forcing worshippers to scamper to safety.
Those abducted were 2 of the church elders while others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the stamped that ensued.
One of the worshippers identified as Kayode Akanbi said they were only just settling down for Sunday service when the armed men arrived.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Akanbi said that, “We were trying to commence the normal service.
“We just started the call to worship and I was interpreting the pastor’s message when suddenly the gunmen entered from the main entrance and raised their guns.
“They shot sporadically and everybody started scampering to safety.”
Injured worshippers were taken to a hospital in Lokoja where they are receiving treatment while the remains of the worshipper who was killed has been deposited at the mortuary of the Kabba General Hospital.
The spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, William Aya confirmed the attack and said that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
He revealed that the perpetrators will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
Sunday’s attack is the 3rd reported major attack on Kabba within the last one week. The development has sent fears and tension among residents of the popular city.
