Chief of Army Staff Storms Maiduguri After Fresh Boko Haram Attacks

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Ibrahim Attahiru today, Saturday, 20th Februarty, stormed Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.

This follows reported two major attacks on two communities in the city by Boko Haram terrorists.

The Chief of Army Staff is scheduled to meet with the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole and other unit commanders tackling the insurgents.

Residents of the area are reported to have fled following a fierce gun battle between Boko Haram and the Nigerian Army.

The terrorists are also said to have raided Borno Central towns of Marte and Dikwa in one night.

Daily Trust reports that they pushed back the Nigerian Military forces and took over Marte.

An eyewitness told Daily Trust newspaper that “They came into Dikwa around 6:05pm, shooting sporadically.

They took soldiers by surprise. Thousands of our people are taking refuge in the bush as we speak.

He added that “I just spoke with an international non-governmental organisation worker who told me that the sounds are deafening.”

Another source confirmed the assault on Dikwa but said the Nigerian troops were in control.

According to him, “Our air support are currently bombarding the the outlaw group, groups are on top of the situation. There is no cause for alarm,” the source said.
