This interview held a couple of years back but still holds a lot of relevance today as Chimamanda gives a superior response to a journalist who attempted to profile her.
The award winning novelist’s response was a subtle, mature violent answer best suited to the racially biased journalist who fell short of asking if there were educated people in Nigeria.
The interviewer asked if her books were read in Nigeria and Chimamanda said yes.
She went on to ask the novelist if there were actually libraries in Nigeria. Not one to be rubbished, Ms Adichie responded that “It’s a shame to the French educational system if you don’t know that there are.”
Obviously irritated, she added “I think it reflects poorly on the French people that you have to ask me that question.
As expected, Chimamanda’s response got the commendation of Nigerians around the world.
The Philanthropic Charlatan.@Verbal_Pugilist· “It is not Chimamanda‘s job to teach a journalist this. Part of her job description is to do her homework. The question was silly and CNA’s response was apt. This is an unnecessary dissertation at best.
