The management of Chrisland Schools and the parents of late Whitney Adeniran, who died during the school’s inter-house sports activities at Agege Stadium, Lagos State have arrived at an agreement.

The two parties have agreed to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.

The latest development was made known in a communique released on Wednesday after a meeting with the school management and parent association.

Michael Adeniran, the father of the deceased took to social media on Saturday night, to call on the Lagos State Government and Police to probe the incident resulting in the death of his daughter.

According to him, his daughter had no health condition or sickness as of the time the school bus picked her up for the sporting event.

On its part, in a statement on Sunday, Chrisland Schools expressed sadness over the incident, describing the death as painful and the institution as heartbroken and depressed.

The school refuted the claims that Whitney participated in sports activities during the inter-house sports, stressing she did not give any reason for her refusal.

They recalled that Whitney complained of health issues in January and the parents were contacted before her father came to the school to take her home.

The school said that during the inter-house sports activities on February 9, the deceased slumped in public view and not under any hidden circumstances and was rushed to the nearest medical facility for first aid.

Chrisland, however, appealed to the Adeniran family to establish a scientific verification of the underlying cause of their daughter’s death before her burial.

The communique issued on Wednesday disclosed that the PTA leadership of the school has paid a condolence visit to the family of Whitney to sympathize with them and assured them they are not alone in this difficult time.

It further stated that an autopsy is currently in progress to determine the cause of the tragic incident while urging every party involved to remain calm pending the outcome.

The school has also declared a 5-day mourning period across all Chrisland Schools and the modalities for the symbolic act in honor of the late student will be communicated to all management levels.
