Christiane Amanpour has revealed she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

The astute 63-year-old journalist has been a longtime host on CNN. Some reports say she has been with CNN from inception in the early 1980s.

She disclosed her medical condition on Monday, 14th of June when she told viewers that the reason she has been away for 4 weeks was because she was diagnosed with an ailment that ravages “millions of women around the world.”

Amanpour emphasised her optimism about the outcome of her treatment as she commences several months of chemotherapy to finally rid her of cancer.

Chemotherapy is a procedure to rid a patient of cancer cells and symptoms that doctors could not surgically remove.

Speaking on her of CNN International show on Monday, Christiane Amanpour said that, “I’ve had a successful major surgery to remove it, and I am now going through several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible longterm prognosis and I am confident.

She added that she was lucky to have health insurance through work and the doctors treating her “in a country underpinned by of course, the brilliant NHS,” apparently referring to the UK National Health Service.

In apparent advise to women to be proactive about their health issues, she added that they should “ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not diminished or dismissed.”

“I’m telling you this in the interest of transparency, but really as a shout out to most early diagnosis.”
