Veteran comedian and actor Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, better known as Okey Bakassi, has been crowned the traditional ruler of Umuihuocha Obohia Autonomous Community in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The 55-year-old entertainer formally assumed the title His Royal Highness, Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule, OKWE II of Umuihuocha Obohia, becoming the second monarch to bear the revered OKWE title, an indication of lineage and continuity in the community’s royal leadership.

While details of his predecessor, OKWE I, remain sketchy, the designation underscores the historical significance of the throne.
Umuihuocha Obohia, part of the culturally rich Mbaise region, is a well-established autonomous community known for its deep-rooted traditions and communal solidarity.
The community’s choice of Bakassi signals a trust in his leadership beyond entertainment, a belief in his ability to guide with wisdom, integrity, and vision.
In a heartfelt message posted on his social media handle on Sunday, Bakassi expressed profound gratitude for the honour. “Special thanks to the entire Umuihuocha Autonomous Community….a new beginning.”
As he ascends the throne, the iconic comedian takes on a new script, one written in the language of tradition, legacy, and service. From making audiences laugh to now leading his people, Okey Bakassi begins a new chapter steeped in history and civic duty.
