A 38-year-old commercial vehicle driver, Silas Vincent was on Tuesday, charged by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing his passenger during an argument over a N100 transport fare.
The police charged the defendant, who resides in Goni-Gora in Kaduna, with assault and causing grievous body harm.
According to the Prosecution Counsel, Chidi Leo, the defendant committed the offence at the Stadium Round About, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna on the 28th of May.
Leo said the defendant and one Emmanuel Isaac got into a brawl over N100 transport fare and he pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the complainant in the shoulder and the back.
The offence is said to contravene the provisions of sections 173 and 284 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
Leo added that the complainant who sustained serious injuries was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and the case was adjourned until June 28 for a hearing.
