There was Tension in Nasarawa State as a group of irate youths humiliated the state’s Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Mohammed Sani Ottos during Eid prayers in his hometown.
The incident which occurred on Tuesday, April 1 disrupted the peaceful religious gathering as tempers flared among the crowd.

According to a video shared by Sahara Reporters on Tuesday, 1 April 2025, chaos ensued when Ottos arrived at the Eid prayer ground. The group of angry youths confronted him expressing their displeasure over what they described as poor governance and neglect of community concerns.
The confrontation quickly escalated with some of the youths resorting to hurling insults and physically obstructing the commissioner’s movement.
In a video circulating on social media, Ottos is seen surrounded by security personnel and aides who struggled to shield him from the aggression.
Sticks were brandished and voices in the background could be heard condemning the commissioner’s leadership. Some attendees attempted to calm the situation, but the disruption ultimately overshadowed the solemnity of the religious event.
Sources indicate that Ottos was forced to leave the prayer ground temporarily to diffuse tensions before being allowed to return later.
The incident marks a continuation of apparent dissatisfaction with his leadership as some individuals claimed similar opposition had been displayed during the previous year’s Eid prayers.
As of the time of reporting, neither Ottos nor the Nasarawa State government has released an official statement addressing the confrontation.
Observers have called for dialogue and reconciliation between government officials and the public to prevent further escalations in the future.
