There was commotion in the House Representatives on Thursday forcing it to break into an emergency executive session over the contentious Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
The Senate had earlier passed the conference report of the National Assembly on the PIB.
The National Assembly had pegged contributions to host communities development trust fund at 3% of the operating expenditure of oil companies in their communities.
Trouble however, started in the House of Reps after some lawmakers protested the alleged reduction in the initially approved 5% accruing to host communities.
5% was initially voted by the reps while the senate passed 3%.
Trouble started when Representative Chinyere Igwe protested the reduction of the allocation for host communities after the conference of both Senate and the house harmonised the document.
Before the arrival of the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, he screamed that, “It must be 5% !”
The pandemonium caused the speaker and other principal officers to walk into the chamber without notice or the usual announcement.
Even when the Speaker returned to take his seat, the commotion continued, prompting him to call for an executive session.
