The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised that commuters cannot access the nation’s port city of Apapa until October.
The advise follows the ongoing constructions at major entry and exit points of the city. It came as a fallout of the governor’s visit to inspect the roads and bridges under construction.
He reassured Lagosians that all the traffic gridlock within the axis will be cleared once the projects are completed by October.
According to him:
“The unabating gridlock caused by the trucks in Apapa is a sore thumb that needs to be taken care of urgently.
Today, I went on an inspection tour of all the road and infrastructure projects in that corridor, and we have resolved to engage with the Federal Government to allow the immediate use of the 700-truck capacity Lilypond Terminal to take the trailers off the road.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also visited the Costain Bridge, Alaka Bridge, Ijora, Marine, Liverpool, Lillypond and Mile 2 Bridges among others.
He stressed that “we need to work in a methodical order and see how we redevelop the whole of Apapa.
“We are setting our activities in a methodical order to see how we can redevelop Apapa. Hence the extensive road construction project ongoing in and around that location..
“Liverpool and Creek roads have already been completed. By October, all the road network leading in and out of the port area would be opened up for public use.
“We have assessed the issues with a view to achieving a permanent solution, in order to ease the burden of residents who live, work and ply that area regularly.”
