The Nigerian Liquified Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) has announced an engagement with the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the lingering cooking gas crisis in the country.
The President of the association, Nuhu Yakubu noted that there was need to sustain the growing adoption of the Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) through sector-friendly policies and programs.
Nuhu made the remark during the 11th NLPGA Conference and Exhibition titled, “Market Growth and Fiscal Regulations – Rethinking the LPG Supply Gaps Amid the Challenging Regulatory Environment.”
He said that “As an association, we are currently engaging with respective government agencies in addressing issues around LPG supply, particularly access to foreign exchange, value added tax, levies etc. We believe that our efforts will yield positive results in good time.
“Also, it is not far-fetched to state therefore, that sustaining the growing adoption of LPG through sector-friendly policies and programmes will support economic growth that will yield jobs and wealth creation.”
The association stressed that the high prices of LPG has shifted the demand to firewood and charcoal, thus feeling desertification and erosion with an adverse impact on the environment.
They also suggested that new incentives be introduced to stimulate investment, processing and utilisation of LPG in Nigeria in line with the nation’s Decade of Gas agenda.
LPG is used as fuel gas in heating appliances, cooking equipment, and vehicles.
