The detained Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari has been granted permission to go treat the various ailments he has.
This comes after the embattled super-cop complained about his worsening health condition.
The former commander of the Intelligence Response Team, (IRT) had dragged the Federal Government to court over his continued detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Speaking through his lawyer, Cynthia Obianuju Ikenna, Abba Kyari asked the court to order his release or alternatively, set liberal bail conditions for him.
Among the many ailments he claims to be suffering from are, chronic diabetes and hypertension. He said his failing health is threatening his life and therefore needs urgent medical attention.
Kyari said he cannot be managed while in the custody of the NDLEA, adding that he was being denied access to his personal doctor.
Ruling on the case on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja, granted an order allowing Kyari to treat worsening hypertension and chronic diabetes affecting him.
The trial judge, however, denied the former IRT Commander bail and asked the NDLEA to keep him in its custody pending the outcome of an investigation into his involvement in the illicit drug business.
Justice Ekwo said the application had been overtaken by the order of the court given on February 22, which permitted the NDLEA to detain Kyari for another 14 days.
He said, “The only order I will make now is an order allowing the applicant access to any medical personnel of his choice.
“The court will wait for the expiration of the duration of the February 22 order of the court.”
Justice Ekwo therefore, fixed March 15, 2022, for the hearing of Kyari’s fundamental human rights enforcement suit.
