Covid19 Second Wave caused by Opening Up of Schools, Worship Centres etc – Prof Abayomi

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi has blamed the second wave of covid19 to the opening up of schools, worship centres and other public places.

The Ministry of Health quoted the commissioners a saying this on Monday while giving an update on the State Government’s response against the second wave of covid19.

The statement titled “Covid19: Lagos admonishes residents,” was signed by Tunbosun Ogunbgawo, Director of Public Affairs, LSMOH.

According to him, Abayomi attributed the reason for the second wave of covid19 to the opening up of the economy, general laxity, false sense of security and non adherence to safety guidelines by citizens.

Other enabling sources are the reopening of schools, large religious congregations, social gatherings and entertainment.”

The Commissioner added that citizens need to begin to make lifestyle adjustments by adhering to all non-pharmaceutical interventions in order to live with the global pandemic.

He advised that some of the safety practices include proper and regular use of face masks, observing social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.

Abayomi added that regular hand and respiratory hygiene, submitting to tests and self isolation if symptoms present themselves and submitting to an isolation centre for follow up.
