Four days after a major youth massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate, Cross Rivers State, youths are still on the streets protesting of Calabar and major State cities against bad governance.
Shops and many private businesses are being looted and razed by arsonists.
Equally vandalised and looted are several warehouses where stock piles of covid19 palliatives were stored.
Not done, the unarmed youth protesters are on the streets peacefully demonstrating and chanting the national anthem.
Earlier in May, the governor wept over the level of poverty among the citizens of the state.
He regretted that he had little to show after five years of governance especially with the imminent danger posed by covid19.
Unable to bear the sight of happenings within his domain at that time, the Cross Rivers Governor broke down in tears during an interview with Channels TV.
According to Governor Ben Ayade, “I never knew that 5 years into office as Governor, I would still find somebody who would live in a thatched house in Cross River.
Fighting back tears, Governor Ayade said “I’m almost crying because I know hoe prepared I was. But, it didn’t end the way I had dreamt for the state.“
Then, breaking down in tears, he added “I just think that somewhere, God will just help me because I really wish I can really help, I really wish I can help.
Regretting his inability to build the Cross Rivers State of his dreams, the governor sobbed that:
“it’s very painful truly truly. I can’t put fives years and not be able to see the change I wished.“
It is uncertain, his state of mind now that the youth and hungry have hit the streets and store house to help themselves.
