The Federal government has concluded plans to end the airlift of Nigerian citizens stranded abroad as evacuation flights end on the 25th of August.
The evacuation measures were put in place as international airports and borders shut down following the outbreak of the #COVID19 pandemic.
Boss Mustapha, Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Covid19 disclosed the end to the evacuation flights during the bi-weekly meeting of the task force in Abuja, on Monday.
According to him, “we wish to state that all evacuation flights will end on the 25th of August, 2020 after which, airports will be given sufficient time to prepare for reopening.”
Nigerians trapped oversees for various reasons, had sent messages to the federal government to assist them return home as the covid19 forced international borders, sea and air ports to shut down.
Some of those trapped abroad had gone on vacation, business and education trips. A number of others ran off for greener pastures because the harsh economic conditions in the country. They got trapped in even more dire conditions with human traffickers and slave masters.
The federal government collaborated with NGOs, airlines and well-meaning Nigerians to bring them back home. Many Nigerian citizens in the diaspora also took advantage of that window, to finally return home.
