The Senate today, recommended that President Muhammadu Buhari remove all serving Service Chiefs.

They recommend that he replace them with people with fresh ideas and solutions to unrelenting insurgency.

Former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima had earlier raised the same motion requesting the removal of the current service chiefs and replacing them with those with new ideas and solutions.

The lawmakers, asked the President to overhaul and remodel the country’s security architecture in addition to investigating allegations of corruption and leakages in the in the armed forces.

The recommendations were made during plenary while debating the nation’s insecurity as well as the slaughtering of 43 rice farmers in Borno State.

Members of the Upper Legislative Chamber also requested the President to consider recruiting at least 10,000 civilian Joint Task Force members.

This is with a view to complimenting the efforts of the military. In addition, requested the President to consider exploring a multilateral partnership with Cameroun, Niger and Chad.

The Senators cautioned that any government that is incapable of protecting lives has no business being in power.

Senator Ali Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume, who has remained passionate about ending insurgency lamented the lack of needed budget by the military resulting in insufficient arms and ammunition.

According to him, his visits to army formations reveal soldiers sharing arms while the AK47 rifles he saw were woefully obsolete.

He also suggested the use of mercenaries in order to effectively fight insurgency.
