The ancient town of Oyo in Oyo State is said to be agog with preparations as the coronation of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 4, 2025.
it is said that the event will formalise Oba Owoade’s position as the custodian of the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.
Reliable sources disclosed to The Sun that extensive preparations are ongoing ahead of the coronation. Committees comprising representatives of the Alaafin’s palace and the Oyo State Government have been established to ensure a grand and hitch-free ceremony.
Before his official coronation, Oba Owoade is expected to undergo a series of seclusion rites, traditionally referred to as Alaafin Rituals.
These rites, steeped in Yoruba culture and spirituality, serve to prepare the monarch both physically and spiritually for his revered role as the custodian of the throne.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had earlier approved Oba Owoade’s nomination on Friday, January 10, 2025.
In a significant gesture of recognition, the governor presented the monarch with the staff and instruments of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, marking the beginning of his reign.
