Ever since the D’banj Vs Seyitan rape case emerged, Nigerian ladies have not let go of the famous musician.
Model scout, Benjamin Ese was enraged when D’Banj joined many calling out rapists on social media and all other interactive platforms.
Ese alleged that the kokomaster and serial brand ambassador raped his friend in a hotel room in Victoria Island. For that reason, he had no moral standing to speak against rape or rapists.
Reports say that the Kokomaster met Seyitan Babatayo at an event and offered her N200,000 in 2018 to spend the night with him. She turned down the offer only for her to retire to her hotel room after the night’s event to find D’Banj inside.
The later forced her down and raped her her. According to her, memories of that incident has left her sore and panic-stricken.
In the wake of protests against rape of Nigerian women, D’Banj posted in dark mode on the 3rd of June that:
“#NoMeansNo We Need to Raise Our Sons right and Teach them to love and Respect Women .We Need Justice for Our GIRLS…Say NO to Rape, Racism, tribalism. Let us stop living in FEAR and HATE ,and start living in LOVE .🙏🙏🙏”
When Seyitan called him out, he was alleged to have ordered her arrest and sued her for N100 million for defamation of character. Within a few days, he did a remix of his popular song, ‘olorun m’aje’ and tagged it:
“Innocent until proven guilty…., STOP SOCIAL MEDIA TRIAL 🏛🏛🏛⚖️⚖️⚖️ #SAY NO TO RAPE AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION”:
Nigerian’s were divided about who to believe until yesterday when Seyitan issued an official press release highlighting her ordeal since she went public with the rape ordeal.
In the press release, she spoke about being whisked away by plain-clothed policemen who visited her apartment under the guise of dispatch riders.
She also spoke about being incarcerated for 48 hours and hater taken by D’banj’s personal aides to an unknown destination. At the location, she said she was bullied and harangued by D’Bang’s team to recant. In both detentions, she was without access to her phone or family until civil rights groups located her.
The press release:
Nigerians have hailed women for standing with her in spite of everything:
D’banj turned 40 on the 9th of June and was celebrated by Heritage Bank who signed him up as its brand ambassador.
The deal has since been revoked by the bank.
