Death Of General Dogonyaro, A Huge Loss To Nigerian Army – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the death of General Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro, former Chief of Defence Staff as a huge loss to the Nigerian Army and the country in general.

He added thatt the former army chief will be missed for his patriotic sacrifices in defence of Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity.

Buhari added that Dogonyaro was a selfless patriot who invested the prime of his life in the service of the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity quotes him as saying that the news came to the President as a shock.

According to him, “The death of Dogonyaro comes as a great shock to me because as a soldier, I know what it means to lose an officer and a gentleman who gave his best in the service of the country,” Buhari is quoted as saying.

He noted that, “laying down one’s life for the country is one of the greatest sacrifices any citizen can make for his country. General Dogonyaro’s incalculable contributions will be remembered for years to come.”

The president also commiserated with the government and people of Plateau State on the death of “this legendary general,” and prayed God to bless his soul and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

He died at the age of 80 in Jos according to family sources.

General Dogonyaro was a member of the coup plotters that removed General Buhari from power in 1985 and was a Field Commander at the ECOMOG mission.
