It is a day of jubilation for the Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State as the Federal High Court in Abuja grants victory to Governor Obaseki over certificate forgery allegations.
Phillip Shaibu and supporters took to the dance floor to the lyrics of Korede Bello’s ‘God Win.’
The jubilation started as soon as the court dismissed the case filed against Governor Obaseki by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The suit was filed after the Edo State Governorship election.
According to Justice Ahmed Mohammed, the plaintiffs based their allegations on a photocopied document presented by the Governor without verifying their observation with the University of Ibadan where Obaseki graduated from.
Justice Mohammed added that there was no evidence to prove the allegation by the plaintiffs. This is in view of the fact that the Deputy Registrar (Legal) of the University of Ibadan had provided evidence to prove that the university actually signed the certificate issued to Governor Obaseki on graduation.
He noted that evidence proved that the governor was admitted to study Classics in 1976 and graduated in 1979. He therefore dismissed the case.
According to the Governor,
“The suit was a most needless attempt by desperate individuals trying to undo the will of the people through the backdoor but we are happy today that justice and truth have prevailed.
“My profound gratitude goes to the judiciary who have stood indefatigably for truth and justice; the President of Nigeria, President @MBuhari; my party, @OfficialPDPNig; our party leaders and members; my teeming supporters; the good people of Edo State and all Nigerians”
