The alleged killers of 12-year-old Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni have been granted bail in the sum of N1 million each by the Yaba Chief Magistrate Court.
The Lagos State Police Command had charged the students with conspiracy and homicide.
The presiding magistrate, Olatunbosun Adeola, after hearing the bail application from the defendants’ counsel, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.
According to Adeola, one of each of the defendants’ sureties must be their parent and must swear an affidavit of compliance.
She further stated that the international passports of all the affected students must be submitted to the court, their residence must be verified by the prosecutor and they must stay within 2km of their residence at all times.
Defence counsel, Miss Ifeoma Eson, Mr A.E. Amah, Mr Godwin Omoaka (SAN), Mr Eze Ajibo represented Begue and Mr Micheal Ayinla were in court for the minors.
The students who were were being held in connection with Sylvester’s death were alleged to have tried to force him to be initiated into their cult group.
He was beaten and left with gruesome internal injuries. The late JSS student is also alleged to have been forced to drink a liquid substance that appeared to have further damaged his internal organs.
