There is hope in sight for cure for the dreaded covid19. This follows the commendation of Dexamethasone clinical trials results by the Director General of the W H O, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The tests were carried out in the U K by a team of the University of Oxford scientists.
Dexamethasone was found to be effective in treating patients with severe symptoms of the coronavirus disease.
However, Ghebreyesus says that before issuing the clinical approval and guidance on how and when the drug should be used, further analysis will be done to ascertain the efficacy.
Glad about the progress so far made about the drug as possible cure for covid19, he said that:
“This is a welcome news. I congratulate the government of the United Kingdom, University of Oxford, the research groups, hospitals, patients and families who have collectively contributed to this lifesaving breakthrough.
“W H O looks forward to learning more about Dexamethasone study. This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in severely ill patients with COVID19Â requiring oxygen of ventilator support.
“There are many ongoing clinical trials for covid19, including the Solidarity Trial launched by W H O and partners. It is hoped that more treatments under clinical evaluation will result in improving patient outcomes and save lives.
“While we are searching for COVID19Â treatments, we must continue strong efforts to prevent as many infections as possible by finding, isolating, testing and caring for every case; and tracing and quarantining every contact.”
