DHL Cargo Plane Crashes into Residential Area , K!lls One, Injures Two (video)

A DHL cargo plane, operated by Swiftair, has crashed near a residential area in Vilnius, Lithuania, on Monday, November 25, 2024, k!lling at least one person and injuring two others.

The aircraft was en route from Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius Airport when it went down in the municipality of Liepkalnis around 5:30 am local time. The crash caused significant damage and a fire, prompting the evacuation of a dozen residents in the area.

According to reports, four people were on board, including two pilots and two DHL employees. One of the pilots was k!lled in the crash, while the second pilot and the other two crew members were rescued alive but sustained injuries.

“It’s a tragic incident, but we are relieved that the plane did not hit the house directly, landing instead in the yard,” said Renatas Pozela, spokesperson for the Fire Protection and Rescue Department.

Emergency services, including fire trucks and command teams from Vilnius Airport, responded swiftly to the scene. Despite the crash, airport operations were unaffected.

“City services are currently onsite, along with a fire truck and a command team from Vilnius Airport,” the Lithuanian airport authority confirmed in a post on X. “Airport operations are not disrupted at this time.”

The cause of the crash remains unknown and is currently under investigation by aviation authorities.
