Diezani Alison-Madueke, the first and only female Petroleum Minister that Nigeria ever had is now a citizen of the Dominican Republic.
Diezani has been on the wanted list of Nigeria’s most corrupt politicians having stolen billions of dollars worth of property and money from the country.
Among some of loot she is accused of stealing and which have been recovered are:
- $40 million worth of jewellery recovered in July 2017
- $37.5 million home
- $2.7 million and $218 thousand recovered in August 2017
- $153.3 million recovered ib January 2017.
She is also wanted for:
- $23.29 billion election bribery scam in the 2015 elections
- 76 forfeited assets (one of chichis the #37.5 million Banana Island home)
- $6.5 million said to have been spent on 40-feet mobile election stages for 2015 general elections.
- $47.2 billion
- $487.5 million
- $23.5 billion
- $5 million
2 to 5 above were traced to various banks and countries.
Reports say that with an investment of only $200,000 the Dominican Republic grants an investor an automatic citizenship.
Diezani Alison-Madueke is not only as free as a bird, a citizen of the island of Dominica, but a diplomat in that country having been made the Trade and Commerce Commissioner and therefore carrying a diplomatic passport.
An interesting part of the appoint as Trade Commissioner is the fact that goes without remunerations, a development commended by the Prime Minister in her letter of appointment.
Part of her appointment letter reads:
“I am pleased to confirm your appointment as Trade and Investment Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Dominica.
“Please note that this posting does not attract a remuneration package. In that respect, I am particularly encouraged by your willingness to serve.
The appointment of a Trade and Investment Commissioner is consistent with my government’s declared intention to have a permanent and active presence in the global business and financial sector operations. We believe that Dominica can benefit from your illustrious record and professional success and knowledge of investment and business operations.
Other reports say that she largely funded the election of the country’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit. Roosevelt has been criticised by the diplomatic community for not abiding the United Nations rules of engagement in selling his country’s diplomatic passport and appointing ambassadors and diplomats.
Information also has it that Diezani was granted a diplomatic passport on May 21st 2015 and got confirmed the same day President Muhammadu Buhari was being sworn in on the 29th of May.
With the latest development, no security agent can arrest or prosecute. Some analysts say that she is even immune to arrest by the Interpol. This is in view of the fact that her passport carries a restraining order against any arrest or prosecution.
This is a major setback for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria EFCC who has made several moves to extradite her from the UK where she had sought asylum.
