Dino Melaye Loses PDP Ticket at Tuesday’s Primary Election

Dino Melaye, a former Kogi West Senator, on Tuesday lost his chance to return to the upper legislative chamber after he lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election.

Melaye was defeated at by a 3-time House of Representative member, Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf who currently represents Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal constituency

While Melaye polled a final vote of 99, Yusuf got 163 votes from the delegates to clinch the PDP ticket for the Kogi West Senatorial Constituency.

Before the deciding votes on Tuesday, both Melaye and Yusuf tied on 88 votes on Monday while another aspirant, Sam Aro got 72 votes.

The close race resulted in a run-off which took place today.

Supporters of Aro decided to pitch their tent with Yusuf giving the House of Reps member the needed numbers to defeat Melaye.

In an interesting political intrigue in Kogi State, Yusuf is supporting the 2023 presidential ambition of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike while Dino Melaye pitched tents with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
