The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has revealed that the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has affected the morale of the men of the police force.
He said that it also limited their ability to fight crime and insecurity.
He made the disclosure today, Thursday during the weekly ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to Baba, the regular police have not been able to fully step into the roles of the SARS operatives and their general morale is low.
He added that the regular police are undergoing the needed training to enable them step into the operational vacuum created by the absence of the SARS operatives.
Alkali Baba said that the string of attacks on policemen in the Southeast have further dampened the morale of the operatives and the attacks must be condemned.
