The Federal Government on Thursday, disclosed that it will announce another lockdown if the rising cases of Covid19 infections across the country do not abate.
The revelation was made during the weekly ministerial briefing organised at the State House in Aso Rock, Abuja.
Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire said that the cases had not yet reached the alarming numbers to warrant a lockdown.
Ehanire added that the new Delta variant does not pose the kind of threat that would warrant a lockdown of any form.
He said that the administrators would rather employ precision lockdowns on specific areas of the country under threat.
The Minister disclosed further that apart from the vaccines sourced free of charge, Nigeria has paid for about 30 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
He also said that since the prices of the one-shot vaccines have dropped, the country hopes to purchase about 40 million doses in total.
Ehanire added that the 176,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson brand have already been received while the rest will come in batches.
He gave assurances that majority of the vaccines used in the country will be bought by government rather than depending on those handed out to it by other countries.
