DISCOs Offer Nigerians Free Electric Power Supply

DISCOs yesterday, 8th April announced resolution to offer Nigerians a 2-month free electricity supply in line with a proposal brought forward by the National Assembly.

This is with a view to making the covid-19 lockdown more bearable for Nigerians.

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) which is the governing body of the power distribution companies (DISCOS), said the modalities will be made public soon.

The Executive Director of ANED, Sunday Oduntan revealed the palliative measure in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

According to him, “the electricity distribution companies recognise the challenging effects of the coronavirus on the economic and daily lives of our customers.

“In fulfilment of our commitments to the nation, we hereby align ourselves with the efforts of the National Assembly and Federal Executive to mitigate the hardship that is currently being borne by our customers and other citizens all over the country.

Oduntan added that, “We are committed to working with them to ensure more efficient power supply within this difficult period as the nation battles the ravages of covid-19.

We are also completely aligned with the plans to ensure palliative measure, including free electricity supply to all Nigerians for 2 months to make life easierĀ during the lockdown period. Details of implementation to come soon.”

Oduntan stressed the commitment of the association to continue to improve on their service delivery to customers even after the covid-19 lockdown period.
