A doctor in the Kenyan city of Nakuru is alleged to to have killed his 2 children by injecting them with insulin before attempting to do the same to himself.
The Nakuru Country Police Commander, Beatrice Kiraguri confirmed the incident. According to her, Doctor James Murithini Gakara injected his 2 children with insulin before attempting suicide with the same substance.
Luckily for him, the effect was slower on him. He was then was taken to hospital under tight security while the bodies of the minors were taken to Nakuru PGH Morgue pending Autopsy.
Reports say that he is a renowned gynaecologist who practices at Optimum Current Hospital in Nakuru.
In her words, of the County Police Commander, “We received a tip-off from the public that there was commotion in a nearby house along Kilimani area. We immediately dashed to the scene and found the lifeless bodies of the 2 children in the house. The father was still breathing.“
Dr Gakara was rescued and immediately taken to the hospital with police escort. The police officer added that the remains of the 2 children were taken to Nakuru Municipal Mortuary while investigations into the incident haThey had an argument on Sunday, according to reports and soon after, Gakara’s wife travelled to to Nairobi leaving him with the children.
A Kenyan resident reports that his motive is not unconnected with his wife’s plans to abandon him and relocate abroad after she landed a lucrative job.

“Doctor James Gakara, a Nakuru-based gynaecologist is suspected to have killed his two children both aged below 10 years today Sunday morning and then attempted to commit suicide at his home in Kiamunyi Estate before he was rescued. It is suspected he used insulin to commit the heinous act after a domestic disagreement with his wife who wanted to travel abroad against his will. The wife was in Nairobi at the time of the incidence.”
“The incidence was confirmed by Nakuru County Police Commander, Beatrice Kiraguri. The doctor is admitted at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital where he is receiving treatment under police security.
“Sad how children bear the Blunt of domestic wrangles they weren’t part of. Hope he lives to stand his day in court and pay for this uncorth action rather than die and escape justice of the land.”
