The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that domestic flights are set to resume.
The flights were suspended since March 2020 following the outbreak of the covid19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown of all flights and transport between cities and states.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika said that domestic flights will resume with the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. Information monitored on his Twitter handle said that resumption date is set for the 8th of July.
Speaking further, Sirika said that “the Port Harcourt and Maiduguri airports will reopen to flights on the 11th of July, while other airports will join on the 15th of July.”
He added that “passengers looking to travel out of the country will have to wait a bit longer as the dates for the restart of international flights into and out of the country will be announced later.”
The Minister thanked members of the public for their patience during flight suspensions brought on the by the COVID19 pandemic lockdowns. Nonetheless, he promised that the ministry will do all it takes to ensure the safety of the flying public.
As domestic flights resume, Sirika also advised passengers to “follow all safety guidelines and protocols put in place to ensure that the airports don’t become channels of infection for the dreaded coronavirus.”
