According to military sources, the driver is reported to be Arotile’s secondary school classmate who had gone to visit with his friends.
Reports say the civilian driver had gone to the Air Force base located in the Mando area of Kaduna State in the company of his friends to visit relatives.
He undertook to drop off Tolulope Arotile whom he met along the Air Force base road. In the process of reversing the car, he knocked down the young lady who sustained head injuries, the anonymous source said. She died from the injuries thereafter.
The driver and the other occupants of the vehicle were taken to into the custody of the Air Force base for investigations. It was in the process that the officers discovered he had no valid drivers licence.
Arotile died on Tuesday according to NigAirForce announcement made on Wednesday. They also report that she is the first ever female combat helicopter pilot ever in Nigeria.
She has been fearless and instrumental in the fight against insurgency nd banditry in the norther parts of Nigeria.
Tributes have continued to pour in from all over while visitors have thronged the family house of the Arolites to commiserate with the deceased’s family.
Nigeria Air Force say Tolulope will be buried in full military honours.
